Just heard some interesting news. Its seems the Mayor held a press conference today in Allentown. Zone 3 is moving from the South Side to an empty building in Allentown!!!!
The station is supposed to go in the Hostel which used to be the old Equibank/Integra/National City Bank. It is a great location — centrally located and closer to the less desirable parts of Mount Washington. This is excellent news for all of us who are serious about investing in our community!
One thing I strongly disagree with is that the city is going to hire an architect to design the station. Come on? Wouldn’t that money be best used for materials for the police to do their jobs — or to go towards jump starting the curfew center.
The building was a hostel how difficult can it be to determine the highest and best use of the upper floors? How difficult can it be to secure the floors to house teen curfew offenders? This is just another way to waste money. That reminds me of the CDC hiring consultants to draft a plan that already exists my theory is to work smarter not harder and do it economically.
The zone three station on the corners of Warrington and Arlington Avenues is great news for the whole district. Now, city council needs to get into gear and “fast track” the plan and open the much needed station!
Wow, This is Big. Also the Mayor sounded serious about implementing the teen curfew. The city is looking for a place to take the offenders! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
How about that another 15211 resident who is concerned about the time lapse of response — and they said I was full of it. Thanks newto15211 — you aren’t the only one.
And - yes - this is big and it is great news for all of us. Plus since it was the fomer hostel the teen curfew center is a no brainer!
This is even better for Diane and the freinds of the park now the cops will have no excuse to miss a call!
Melissa, Friends of Grandview Park of very happy about this. Although we have been lucky, knock on wood, not much vandelism. Maybe because the park is now used so much, it changes away the bad elements. Speaking of the park don’t forget tonight the movie is Martian Child and before that B94 will be there with on-air personality and win special prizes!
That’s great — I wish I coulf have been there but it’s my mums birthday. I remember doing things in the park when I was little and then my brother and sister weren’t allowed to take me there. I am really happy to see the park being utilized. I know a few times I helped to paint the picnic table and the garbage cans so it’s good news that the vandalism has been reduced. Great work!
I am thrilled that the police station is moving into Allentown and at such a great location. But, with all due respect, I just hope residents don’t take advantage of it to the point where they’re calling the cops every time someone drops an empty Dorito bag on their front sidewalk.
There is open prostitution and drug dealing in Allentown, not to mention the spike in gun violence that seems to be everywhere, so I hope we let the police maintain those crimes as priorities.
I Agree ssb70, some people call the police for every little thing, that I personally feel they could handle on their own. Then we have the others that hide behind behind their curtains and just don’t want to get involved!
