Shop good
by Mountain Girl ~ November 30th, 2009. Filed under: Community.Rob Frank’s comment on the message boards today is a good reminder about what’s really important this holiday season as we run around buying our Zhu Zhu hamsters and Snuggies. If we’re going to spend money for Christmas or Hanukkah or whatever holiday(s) you observe, then why not also help someone that may need a little extra right now?
So take Rob’s advice and head on over to the MS Society site and buy some cards or gifts. Virginia Linn at the Post-Gazette also wrote an article about charities such as the Heritage Health Foundation in Braddock and Make-a-Wish selling holiday cards this year. If you know of any other non-profits in the area that give us similar opportunities to give back, please post in the comments.
On the flip side, a friend sent me a link today from the International Labor Rights Forum website with a list of companies that “employ laborers who toil for long hours under dangerous working conditions for poverty wages”. Check it out. You won’t be surprised to see the name of the big box store we all love to hate, but you may feel compelled to return that cool couch you just bought at that place with the tasty Swedish meatballs.
Peace.
