The Shiloh out

The Shiloh Have you seen the Remax ‘For Sale’ sign on the front porch of the The Shiloh? No one seems to know for sure why it closed, but it doesn’t much matter. What matters is that we’ve got an empty storefront in a highly visible spot in our business district. My anxiety about it exists on two levels. I worry that it will remain empty for an extended period of time and I also worry that a fly-by-night business with enough money to sustain it for about six minutes will try to make a go of it with something that doesn’t fit within our vision for our community.

The closing of The Shiloh is yet another reason I think you should support City Council’s approval of rezoning One Grandview tomorrow at the public hearing at 2pm. (If you’d like to speak, you must call Linda M. Johnson-Wasler in the City Clerk’s office at 412-255-2138 prior to the hearing in order to have your name placed on the speaker’s list.) UPDATE: If you can’t make the hearing, you can send comments regarding the zoning change to mary.doheny@city.pittsburgh.pa.us.

City Council’s approval will enable the developer to break ground on his hotel/condo project and ideally serve as an anchor for revitalization on Shiloh Street. For those opposing the zoning change or other development opportunities in Mt. Washington (a minority at this point, thankfully), the closing of a business in our neighborhood is proof once again that discouraging development doesn’t keep the face of our neighborhood the same. Our neighborhood will continue to change. Just not for the better.

It’s sad to see that close. It’s been on the market for quite a while now, and I was hoping (and still am) that a good quality business will take over.

    Just who discouraged the Shiloh?

Have you read my other comments on this blog regarding development?

I don’t think anyone said anything about discouraging The Shiloh.

And yes, we read all comments.

In the above article “The Shiloh out”, you write ” ….the closing of a business in our neighborhood is proof once again that discouraging development doesn’t keep the face of our neighborhood the same. ”

You offered this as proof or did you not mean what you wrote?

Glad you read all comments. If you have read mine, then you will see that I don’t feel this community has discouraged development.

Such a shame, especially since they improved the curb appeal so much in recent years.

Speaking of area businesses closing . . . what about the little dress shop at Boggs and Wyoming, next to the bike shop? She has a Santa image in her door window and I haven’t seen her “Open” sign on for awhile. Thought maybe she went away for the holidays. Sure hope she hasn’t closed. Because there is no parking there, I haven’t stopped in . . . but I sure wanted to!

ssb70: Maybe she went away with the person running this blog since, as you can see, the poll above is not very current.
