Q: What the heck is happening on Shiloh?

Shiloh StreetA: Not much yet, but there are definitely lots of things in the works!

  • The Shiloh Street Grille & Upstairs at the Shiloh (the restaurant formerly known as The Shiloh Restaurant and Live Entertainment) is in the midst of re-branding themselves. A “pub” menu is available on the first floor, which includes more appetizer-like fare (to-die-for flatbread, sandwiches, wings, etc.) and you can still order from the dinner menu if you’d like. Unfortunately, they’ve made the Grille part of the place all smoking so non-smokers won’t have the opportunity to enjoy the new lounge-y look and feel or have front seats to live music acts.
  • Packs and Dogs will be opening in the former Village Dairy space sometime in late May.
  • Architecture firm, Burt Hill, has graciously agreed to donate both supplies and labor (although volunteers are welcome) to invigorate Fireman’s Park. And they’re doing more than just repaving and landscaping. They’re going to be incorporating an eco-friendly water garden into their design so that the space can function as both peaceful retreat and possible venue for live music, readings, etc.
  • The space formerly known as Eckerd will become a fitness center. OK, maybe not, but that’s what we’re hoping for so if you know anyone that would be interested in opening one, please connect them with someone at the CDC.
  • While we’re putting out requests, how about a unique, high-end card/gift shop like this one somewhere on Shiloh?

It would be nice to do updates like this on all of the business district areas of our community. If you know of anything going on, please let us know and we’ll share it with everyone.

I LOVED Kards Unlimited when I worked in Shadyside (except the name, one of my pet peeves is cutesy mis-spellings). That would be very cool to have a store like that here and not have to fight Walnut Street.

Best news I’ve heard on this blog yet. Congratulations to all responsible.

I’m glad you asked Mountain Girl: an article in the South Pittsburgh Reporter says Zone case 054/08 to be heard at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 27 is the appeal of Jeff Paul for 406 Sweetbriar Street for use of 22 single unit attached three-story single family dwellings with 2-car integral garages and 2 exterior parking stalls per unit.

Plans are on file for these cases and may be inspected up to the date of the hearing. Anyone who wishes to be heard must appear in person.

Years ago this was the location of a grocery store and most recently a community meeting room.

I’m still hoping for that bookstore on Shiloh. I can just see myself sitting by that water garden–fantastic idea–sight, sound, feel and with a few aromatic plants even smell and for taste I can saunter down to the local biergarten.

I heard that the the new place at the Shiloh inn will be serving lunches tuesday thru Saturday. Its about time. It will be a great place for tourists and residents alike. I know Redbeards does a decent lunch business the Shiloh should do the same. I just wish they would come to the conclusion that a little sprucing up of the exterior would go a long way to new business and that miller lite banners hanging from the deck isnt the best way to rebrand yourself. But I will definetly support them just the same. Maybe they just need more money before they will spend it on improvements.

Circusvue, are you concerned about the Jeff Paul development at the end of Sweetbriar? When you mention people wanting to be heard, are you encouraging them to support or oppose his development? Because I have only heard positive things about this especially from those who live over that way. I know I would love to see more conscientious developers like this one doing meaningful projects like this one. MG can we get some images from this somehow on the site? I know he passed some out at the meeting at sweetbriar.

    Villager:

Don’t know anything about Jeff Paul but just passing along information that Mountain Girl asked for–”if we know of anything going on”. However, when I googled that name I got some terrible results but could not ascertain that this was the same Jeff Paul.

I am usually in favor of more city taxpayers versus empty stores and buildings. I would have to hear more about this particular development before I would decide to support or oppose. I am glad you heard positive things, that is encouraging.

Thanks circusvue. It’s important for supporters of this proposed development to know when hearings will take place that pertain to it.

I attended the Board meeting last week and Jeff gave a great presentation of what he was planning to do on Sweetbriar. Jeff Paul is a Mt. Washington resident and only wants to bring High End quality development to his own neighborhood.

The board and all the CDC members in attendance were very supportive and I must agree, something like this is much needed in Mt. Washington. That area is really run down and scary, this will really help that neighborhood.

He really seems to have all of his ducks in a row, and is doing this the right way. I think I remember him saying they are going to be Green. He also supports new business development in our business districts including Virginia Ave. I think he understands that without basic resources IN Mt. Washington, it’s going to be hard to sell these new units. So I give my support and would hope all of the people that read this blog would too. Positive change is a good thing.

I did not attend the board meeting but I do like what Jeff Paul is doing for this community.

    Hi Bobby,

I just wanted to let you know although I think Jeff Paul is doing some great development up here, he is not a resident. He lives in Greentree.

    Not that it matters…

That’s fantastic about Fireman’s Park. Thank you to Burt Hill!

any idea what’s happening with the 406 sweetbriar property? they were supposed to start building in august but nothing yet….

  12. FYI

Good Afternoon all….. I’m sure this will be covered elsewhere, however groundbreaking on Sweetbriar Village was today and attended by Mayor Ravenstahl, and City Councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith and others… It is a wonderful project and a move forward.

    To Clairify a few points…
Yes, if you Google Jeff Paul you will find a number of bad reviews of some money making scam etc. THAT IS NOT THIS JEFF PAUL.

    2. Mr. Paul does maintain a residence in Mount Washington. Greentree is his parents residence / business address.

Mr. Paul has done a number of positive projects in and around the Mount Washington area. I wish there were more developers like him.

Glad to hear we have the good Jeff Paul and not the bad Jeff Paul.

Also, would like to comment on the beautiful garden and whoever is maintaining it at the Bulletin Board corner of Merrimac and Grandview.
Very nice and thank you very much.
