Pittsburgh City Council gave final approval today to Mt. Washington zoning changes that streamline construction of a hotel and condominiums on land including the site of the former Edge restaurant.

The city Planning Department still must approve the development plan for One Grandview before construction can start, said Beau Beemsterboer, son of the Chicago-based developer Steve Beemsterboer.

The developer will focus this year on gaining that approval, preparing the site, and demolishing the dilapidated restaurant building, Beau Beemsterboer said. Ground breaking on the 115-room hotel and 55 condos would occur next year. A spa, fitness center, meeting place and 500-car parking garage also are planned. Total investment is expected to approach $100 million.

Congratulations to the community for being consistent with your desire to see something magnificent and truly unique built at One Grandview. Gratitude should also be directed to the development team for your continued openness and accessibility to community and City questions and concerns. In both cases, patience and perseverance has paid off! The MWCDC looks forward to working with the developers and all residents to ensure the plans and expectations of this revitalization project is realized.

  2. So Excited

Just viewed a slide show on the One Grandview Development at WPXI.
This is going to be just a wonderful addition to our neighborhood…So many people will benefit from this project. Fabulous!

This is not good for us at all. What about the big whole at the top of my street (Sweetbriar St.)

You are thinking of a different “developer” Rich.

  5. Landlord

Perhaps the interest in developing Mt Washington will increase due to the approval process of the One Grandview Development. And all those ‘holes’ on Grandview Ave will become just to valuable to sit empty; now that would be wonderful. A vibrant revitalized neighborhood….awesome.

  6. Investor

You are so right Landlord. Mt Washington will finally start becoming a attractive neighborhood to invest in. Like East Liberty is doing and Lawrenceville, In fact I know of some properties that have sat empty for many years on the Mt. that I might take a second look at.
