Neighborhood SWAT teams to clean city’s business districts

Sick of staring at Mr. or Ms. fade’s tag on every surface in Mt. Washington? Tired of people parking too close to your driveway because they can’t see the yellow curb? Well, it looks like the mayor and City Council feel your pain and are stepping up to help city neighborhoods get spiffy. According to an article in today’s Post-Gazette, the “hokey” patrol (named after Hokey-brand vacuum cleaners) is a collective effort between the URA, public works and BBI and will be funded primarily by the state.

Five-person teams will kick off this initiative - called “Taking Care of Business Districts”- and will target 15 state-sanctioned Main Street districts citywide as well as 33 smaller business areas around Pittsburgh.

While it’s unfortunate gas is so expensive, it’s smart to making urban living as appealing as possible.

Is the Mt. Washington business district included? Or the Allentown business district?

I hope some of the business districts (especially Mt. Washington) which are not yet included would take it upon themselves to “clean up” their storefronts as best they can. I fell as though everyone is waithing for someone else to do their work for them.

    Whodunit:

Thanks for clarifying. I wasn’t sure if Mt. Washington was included at this point.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about business owners cleaning up. If you have pride in your business and want to attract more business, it’s completely counterproductive to allow planters to wilt and garbage to collect outside your establisment.
