NAACP calling for police officers to be fired

by Mountain Girl ~ January 28th, 2010. Filed under: Community.

The NAACP is calling for the firing of the three police officers that tasered and beat Jordan Miles in January. In interviews with the Post-Gazette and on KDKA, a spokesperson for the Fraternal Order of Police continues to cite the police officers’ stellar record at getting guns off of the streets as reasons for not even placing them on leave. I don’t quite see the connection.

The underlying racism in this situation cannot go unmentioned. A young black man in Homewood arousing suspicion from white officers and subsequently being beaten for “non-compliance” (a friend reminded me that these officers were not in uniform and that he would have run like hell himself). For anyone that doubts the scope and extent of racism in this country…the first thing I heard from a group of women in Pittsburgh this morning after the State of the Union. “I wish my man [referring to President Obama] would have just shut up and done a tap dance for me.”

So how come there isn’t 3-4 front page articles on 15211.org about the incident involving Officer Triolo from last week? I guess it is easier to criticize police officers for when they F up than it is to actually give them some credit when they do their duty.

Thanks Knuppster. Officer Triolo deserves an accomendation from the city. If she doesn’t that definately deserves three-four pages of complaints. Way to go Officer Triolo!

I agree with Knuppster. The police bashing on this site (and others) is unfortunate.
