Mt. Washington’s Got it Goin’ On
by Mountain Girl ~ November 19th, 2008. Filed under: Community, Events, MWCDC, Volunteer. So there is a lot going on in our neighborhood this week and even though we’ve been trying to keep up with events on the calendar, here’s a quick rundown:
Thursday
National Leaf Raking Day
15211.org reader Alex is raking leaves. In fact, he declared tomorrow, Thursday, Nov 20th, Leaf Raking Day in Mt. Washington from 4-6PM. Alex posted about it on the message boards, but it hasn’t seemed to garner much response. If you yourself are able-bodied and are fastidious enough to keep up with your own leaf-raking, your neighbor may not be. So why not help them out? Or at least let Alex know about anyone that needs leaf-raking assistance. E-mail him at fisherofmen376@hotmail.com.
Ream Center Bake Sale
We’ve talked a lot about the Ream Center. If you’re one of the champions of the Center and its mission, then you’re going to want to come to the bake sale they’re having on Thursday at 5:30PM. Proceeds go to Children’s Hospital. Meet the parents, meet the kids and check out the facility. Oh and did I mention that the goodies are being made by Eat ‘n’ Park bakers?!
MWCDC Forum
After you rake leaves and then stuff yourself with cookies and cupcakes, hop on over to the MWCDC forum at 7PM at the Senior Center. Meet the new board members and voice your opinion on the issues affecting our neighborhood like blight and crime and strip clubs. Seriously, more people need to get involved. The CDC welcomes the participation.
Friday
Light Up
There are tons upon tons of events going on downtown for Light up Night. But doesn’t it seem odd to go DOWNtown for Light UP? Everyone else is rushing up here to get there spot for the fireworks and we simply have to gaze out a window or walk a block or two to one of the overlooks. So stay in the ‘hood this year. Invite your family, invite your friends and visit all of the businesses in Mt. Washington that are extending their hours and having specials.
Carnegie Library is staying open late and having events for the kids and so are some of the churches. For all of you artsy folks out there that have become accustomed to going to Lawrenceville to drink wine and listen to music in a raw art gallery space, now we’ve got one too. And it’s going to be open on Light Up Night on Shiloh Street for the very first time. It’s the place to be. Seriously. I’m not just saying that because we’ll all be there. Check out vuplus.org for a schedule of events and more information. Now I must go and figure out what I’m going to get as my temporary tattoo. See you at Blazin’ Tans!
