How are we to know if the owners of Sonny's are mortified? They didn't sound like they were at the meeting. They were defensive. Yes they “sounded” surprised.. to be honest. I wasn't surprised at all, we were all just waiting for something like this to happen and I guess I'm the only one on the Mount with the cojones to admit it.

There are known drug dealers going in and out of that place on a daily basis and I've seen people go in there that have been connected with other shootings… for a long time now.. this isn't recent.

Sonny's is a nuisance bar. The owners know it, the community knows it. I'm sure the owners are good people, my beef isn't with them personally, it's with how they have decided to run their business. I'm sure a new owner would be able to clean it up in less than a month, it's not rocket science.

The current owners now have an opportunity to clean it up without offending anyone. Let's see if they take that opportunity.

I won't be holding my breath.

Sorry if you don't agree. Just being honest. That's why we have this site, lets keep this topic going!

First of all Will you stop saying things about the owners of Sonny's. This incident could have happened at Foodland, COGO's or even a playground but no it happened at Sonny's. For the owners I would totally have done what they did open up the next day because life must go on. If we would close every establishment that ever had a shooting or numerous police reports how many banks, convience stores, department stores, malls, and schools would we have left? Not too many if you watch the news and keep up with the number of shootings in the area. I want all of you to know that Sonny's Place is not in any way a nuisance bar in fact in my eyes and in the eyes of the owners it is a place where friends and family can hang out and have a drink and have FUN. And in regards to those of stating that there is drug traffic in the bar well try going to the MAtrix where the are smoking marijuanna right on the dance floor or down in the strip district where that is all you smell. So talk about the drugs cause whether anyone wants to believe it or not I have not seen people leaving to go outside and smoke snorting things in the bathroom like I see at other establishments. I just want to say to the MWCDC that Sonny's PLAce has been in the community for twenty some years and yes this was a tragedy but how is the owners fault that this happened. It is not their fault they have tried to help this community in every way possible that I know of and what about the other businesses. Sonny's PLace was very involved when the had the community center for the kids at the bottom of Sweetbriar Street. Sonny's Place helped to raise money for the kids of the community where were the other bars when they had a Night at the Races for the Center Sonny's supported that or when they Children's Bingo's Sonny's supported that or when they had a community day well once again they were there for that. Not only did they volunteer to work the event but they also donated and donated. Welll here is another one for you I volunteer to work the BISCUITS BINGO to help a variety of animal organizations and yes Sonny's Place donated for that. My little girl has Autism and once again I had just mentioned to the bartender one night and he made a donation to help support Autism. I was amazed when the donation was given as it came out of his pocket. So not only is Sonny's a great place to hang out have fun and drink but truly owned by the BEST FAMILY IN MT WASHINGTON that will do whatever they can to help so if you people are having problems with accepting the fact that Sonny's IS NOT A NUISANCE BAR. Please tell the owners what the problem is and I am sure they will try to fix it. Because SONNY”S PLACE MEANS ALOT TO THEM !!!!!!

I'm Just saying that TO MEit doesn't seem like they really care that much. Maybe I'm wrong. They have surrogates on this site trying to take up for them but in not a very convincing fashion. We would like to open up the discussion TO THE OWNERS. If they don't like what we are saying, then debate us about it. Tell us what they are going to do to fix the problem(s).

I'm not one to be stubborn about my opinions and will change my attitude toward Sonny's if Sonny's makes changes that will improve the safety of Mt. Washington and the corner of Southern and Shiloh. I will offer this site up to help promote a better clientele and promote what ever changes they make. We would love for Sonny's to improve for themselves, their rep. the better of the community, Mt. Washington. The people that typically use this site have strong opinions and a lot of ideas and I'm sure Sonny's could at least open their ears and listen to what the community is saying.

Will they actually do anything??? Only time will tell.

friend of Sonnys, I read your comments . You would actually bring your family into that place!? Are you talking children? Because I've heard from some of the neighbors that they have the door open quite a bit and the language is quite disturbing among other things. Please explain what you mean by family. Also what goes on in the back room, is that where your dining room is? Does anyone live in the apartments upstairs. Maybe the neighborhodd group up there needs to do a surprise walk thru some night.

This is a response to 15211 Advocate

How exactly does “mortified” sound? How long have you lived in Mount Washington? How often do you frequent the bars on Shiloh St.? It's funny to me how you seem to know so much about who goes in and out of the bar. “Known” drug dealers and people that have been connected to other shootings??? It seems to me that you know more than the police, but, you don't go to that bar. So, how do you know? Shame on you for even saying that the owners of Sonny's weren't mortified.

I know only what people tell me.

Shame on you for taking the side of one establishment over a whole community. Now we know where you stand. Thanks for viewing the site by the way.

Ok, so you only know what people tell you. So you don't really know if drug dealers go in and out of Sonny's , and you don't know that peole who are in there are connected to other shootings. Yet, you post here as if you do know. I'm not sure how that comment can show you where I stand, but I'll tell you. I have lived here for 30 years. I have 2 young children that I am raising in this community. I worked for some of the businesses when I was younger that are no longer around. I am willing to do anything to keep this community and my kids safe. This is not Sonny's place versus the community. Again, I will ask, how long have you lived here? You talk alot, but you don't seem to know too much.

Mt Mom:

I agree with you that targeting one bar is not productive. However, I take issue with anyone that asks how long anyone has lived here. It's completely irrelevant. A resident is a resident is a resident. Furthermore, I think we need to include more renters in our initiatives in Mt. Washington.

This is indicative of what makes change difficult to implement in Pittsburgh. Those that have lived here for decades look at anyone moving in as an “outsider” instead of being inclusive and soliciting opinions to get new perspectives.

Let me see. You've lived here for 30 years.

According to someone else on this blog, the 15211 has been in a slow decline.. for 30 years.

Maybe the “not doing anything” way of life that has dominated this area should end, cause it doesn't seem to be working.

Also, this isn't about me or you, like I always say, it's about what's best for the 'hood. Murder at Sonny's Place isn't best for my 'hood. Is it for yours?
