Hi all… I'm a mt washington resident and during my daily walk
with my dog I can't help thinking what an amazing venue the Grandview
Park is. My girlfriend Kristin and I would love to throw a sunday
afternoon bbq deep house / jam band benefit party.
Would anyone happen to have a point of contact for the park? It's an ideal location and it's not utilized enough.

What
more could you ask for? A low key, pet friendly event taking place in
our park. Our headlining band is phenomenal. Guitar Zack is only 21
but is honestly in my opinion one of the most amazing guitar players
I've ever seen live. He moved out to LA when he turned 19 in hopes to
make it big and came out on top. He's toured the states and the UK
with some of the most influential and upfront blues / jazz muscisians
in the world. They all say he's the next biggest thing. Check out his
website!

J Ferrese, We have a group called Friends of Grandview Park and we are always looking for volunteers willing to get involved.. So far we have been able to get the Free Movies every Sat. June July August. Art Cart. Dog activities. Someone here said they were planning a day of musical bands, but not sure where that went. End of August we will have a Market Place and vendors buy a table for $50 and sell their items. Jewelry, Art Work, Handmade Items, food. All money will go to a 100th birthday of Grandview Park next year. We will be happy to steer you in the right direction regarding park permits etc.

We are also looking for entertainment for the GVP Marketplace. Would guitar zack like to donate performance? We'd love to have him!

Your Sunday afternoon BBQ with Music and your friendly dogs sounds wonderful. That amazing park is truly under utilized.
I do not have pet, but I love BBQ and Music. Keep us posted.

I spoke to Zack today. He will be leaving for Califorina on Aug 11th. I'll need to try to get this organized for a possible Aug 10 date. That means allot of work FAST.
The first piece of the puzzle is getting the park locked down. I'll gladly volunteer time / services for the Market place event and help out any way I can. I will not be able to wait for the meeting at the end of the month (although I will be in attendance). Could anyone pass on a good point of contact for getting things in motion?
As of right now I have a sound company, DJ, Guitar Zack + band lined up. I can't work on sponsorship until I secure the venue.
I think Aug. 10 is the perfect date. The American Eagle Outfitters : New American Music Union festival is on friday and saturday in the southside. I'll have 1-3000 flyers to hand out at the festival and also to leave w/local businesses. Since the event will be free, I will be relying on food sales & donations for the benefit. I'm going to try to sell flyer ad space to local (mt washington / southside) businesses to take care of the cost of sound / zack's band / park permit.
All proceeds will be donated to Hello Bully. They are a local organization that helps rehabiliate, foster home & keep pitbulls out of animal shelters. If you've ever been in the north side humane sociey dog shelter, you already know this is a problem. With breed specific legislation knocking on Pittsburgh's door, action must be taken now.
I'd also like to involve at least one local vet (I have one in mind but I'd like to see others out as well) possibly to run a low cost vaccination clinic. Local pet stores could donate pet products for giveaways. Local food stores (foodland / giant eagle) to donate BBQ goods (hot dogs / hamburgers). Local papers (observer, cp) to run a free add possibly w/our sponsors logos. Humane society to setup a booth and possibly bring out some animals for adoption. Hello Bully to bring out a few rehabilitated dogs to demonstrate their services.
Now that I know Zacks move date, I'm really pressed for time. I found a few websites (alleghenny parks a few others that my girlfriend bookmarked on her computer) but I'm not sure which direction I should go. Any immediate help is appreciated.
Thanks,
J

btw… I just found out that my sound tech works for Jerry O'neil… whom I'm told helps out w/your Saturday movie night. That's pretty ironic. Jerry lives out in Shaler! lol! Small world.

Alex-Ken Wolfe, who is on the Allentown CDC Board and also Chief of Staff for Councilman Bruce Kraus (his district is where Grandview Park is located) will try to help with the permit questions etc. He has also planned musical events in the past at Grandview Park .412-255-2130
