I'm pretty sure this idea will get shot down, but throwing it out there anyway.
If you sit at Grandview and Shiloh, and watch the numbers of cars going towards the Mon Incline with an out of town license plate, it's amazing. I'm sure once the tourists turn down Wyoming and hit the cobblestone, it's not appreciated. If you think about it, probably 99/100 cars going in that direction have no reason to drive there, because one, there's very few homes back there, or two, because most people would avoid the cobblestone and cut over via Shiloh to Sycamore.
Wouldn't we want these tourists directed through our business district? What about having Grandview/Wyoming as a one way coming from the Edge towards Shiloh? This would result in more tourists going down Shiloh (there's always the parking Garage/Lot at Beam Way). This would also result in less traffic in that block of Grandview, allowing safer/easier crossing for pedestrians coming from or going to the Mon Incline.
Feel free to shoot this down, but ideas anyone???

Cat in the Hat,
I think it's a great idea. I would actually propose going a step further and say let's make a list of traffic flow suggestions throughout our business district and take it to Dept of Public Works.
I would assume that developers making plans for the newly zoned Virginia Avenue would do some traffic pattern analysis as part of their due diligence. Since the area you're proposing is part of that, perhaps you can take your suggestion directly to them.

I also wish there was no street parking on Shiloh and the sidewalks were bigger for people to sit.

A lot of residents go that way in the morning to turn down Sycamore toward downtown, and I would assume that tourists head back off of the Mount that way, too. Also I understand the Edge might be developed, if I were the developer I don't think I'd like that at all.
I understand what you're saying about directing people up Shiloh Street but that could cause some real congestion there, especially from Sycamore back to Grandview. I think those streets are too short to handle the extra load at rush hour.

Edith, I agree with you, now is not the time to talk about changing Grandview Ave. near the Mon Incline. We don't want anything to stall any upcoming discussions of the proposed development of the Edge!! Yikes. What are you thinking, folks?

Diane, Edith:
I completely understand what you're saying, but I get so tired of tiptoeing around certain things just to get other things accomplished. I suppose that's politics though. It's all in how you play the game.

I think what all of the 15211 needs is a traffic assesment to get some suggestions on how to have better traffic flow for the residents and the tourists. I'm sure the Dept of Public Works could hold some sort of public forum to get oppinions and then do a true assessment and recommend what is best for all of the weird traffic patterns we have up there. That would be the best way to get some potential developers to buy into this kind of idea. I'm sure the Edge dev. will have to have this done anyway on that new site. (much like the new dev in Oakland)…

Is someone going to develop the Edge property?

Someone from Chicago has been buying all the property up on Vinecliffe St. There is an agreement on the table with him and Dr. Hurite who owns the Edge. We've heard this a few times over the past 25 years. So I'm not getting overly excited quite yet.
