Found dog on Bailey Avenue, Saturday, 6/21 evening. Adorable and well taken care. Please respond back if you or anyone you know is missing their pet.

Great news…

Bama's owner found us and she is now safe at home with her family!

Just the other day someone posted on here about the increased number of leash-less and owner-less dogs wondering aimlessly around the Bailey Avenue Area. That literally every day they see new ones wandering about. And to boot they find it to be a “tad unnerving”.

Unnerving? ABSOLUTELY. But I can only hope that this same person does the right thing by capturing the dog(s) and tries to find their owners. Every dog that you see running the streets isn't necessarily a stray or abandoned dog. Sometimes dogs escape their yards. Or slip their collars. Maybe someone inadvertently left the gate open. Who knows. But we just can't turn away and assume that it's not our problem. We all have to pitch in and help.

Is it easy to capture a stray? NO. Is it convenient to take time out of your busy schedule to help? NO. Is it the right thing to do? ABSOLUTELY!!!! If you can't find the pets owner then take it to a local shelter. That has to be better than being killed by a car. Who knows…. maybe some day it will be YOUR dog that needs a little help in finding their way home.

Neighbors, please….. if you see a stray dog… do the right thing. Help it or find someone that is willing to do the work for you.

I've helped quite a few stray/lost animals in my day, believe me.

And on more than one occassion I have attempted to call a dog over to get a looksie at the collar. But when that fails, which it does 99.9% of the time, the last thing I'm going to do is leave my child in the house while I go running around the neighborhood chasing after someone elses dog. And after running around the neighborhood, then what do you suggest I do? I surely will not bring somebody elses dog into my home.

Maybe I'll attend a meeting. Then you can all tear me a new one for “not doing my part” to my face, and perhaps your little meetings will magically make this loose dog problem dissapear! Yay!

First of all, I’d like to thank you for helping the stray/lost animals that you’ve helped in the past.

Secondly, I’ve never (nor would I EVER) suggest that you leave your child alone while you “go running around the neighborhood chasing after someone else’s dog”. The mention of that is absolutely absurd.

I’m glad you asked what I would suggest that you do with a stray dog. If you aren’t able to help, find someone that is. If you are able to approach a friendly animal, perhaps you could confine it in your garage, basement or porch until you are able to get help or find its rightful owner. Please understand that I am in NO way suggesting that you endanger yourself or your family to help an animal in need.

Again, this might be your dog some day. Wouldn’t you want someone to help him/her?

I cannot comment appropriately on your anger issues regarding our (YOUR) community other than to suggest that you may want to let some of this anger go. You might find that life is a better place with a less abrasive outlook.
