by Mountain Girl ~ January 15th, 2010. Filed under: Latest News.A few people have emailed about where to donate to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Allegheny County has suggested donating to the following organizations leading efforts there (although there are others):
Brother’s Brother Foundation
Pittsburgh-based BBF is working with partner organizations Food For The Poor of Miami and the Pittsburgh-based Functional Literacy Ministries of Haiti to send needed relief supplies. BBF will send requested pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and other humanitarian relief goods in the coming days.
Hospital Albert Schweitzer Haiti
HAS improves the quality of life in Haiti’s Artibonite Valley by digging wells, helping to reforest, creating micro-enterprise opportunities for women, and teaching literacy.
The American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is sending money, supplies and staff to Haiti to support relief efforts there after yesterday’s earthquake, which caused catastrophic damage and loss of life.
Mercy Corps
Mercy Corps is a team of 3700 professionals helping turn crisis into opportunity for millions around the world.
Food for the Poor
Food For The Poor is the largest international relief agency in the United States according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy and had maintained fundraising and administrative costs of less than 4% of its expenses; more than 96% of all donations go directly to programs that help the poor.

They are an international independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters and exclusion from health care.
