Getting around on Light Up Night

KDKA has a thorough list of bridge and street closing so I’ve replicated it below. You can go directly to their site as well if you’d like more information. They’ve also included a pretty nifty printable brochure containing a list of Light Up Night events downtown. Not that you’ll need it. You’re going to be in Mt. Washington, right?

Light Up Night Road Closures
Source: Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership

Roberto Clemente Bridge (Sixth St.): full closure at 10 a.m. for bridge party stage installation and set-up. It will reopen at midnight.

Andy Warhol Bridge (Seventh St.): Single lane closure at 10 a.m. (side closest to Clemente Bridge) for fireworks installation; full closure at 8 p.m. to prepare for fireworks launch. The bridge will reopen following the fire inspection at midnight.

Fourth Ave. (to Stanwix St. at PPG Plaza): Closed from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Penn Ave. from Fifth Ave. Extension to Stanwix St.: Closed from 6 – 7:30 p.m.

Liberty Ave. from Delray to Stanwix: Closed due to North Shore Connector Project

Smithfield St. (between Fifth and Fourth Ave.): Partial closure at 4:30 p.m.; full closure at 6 p.m. It will reopen at 8:30 p.m.

Parking

If you’re planning to drive into the city, your best bet to avoid the congestion may be to scope out some fringe parking lots. Free shuttles will be available to help get you downtown from ALCO’s lots on the North Shore and the Strip District lot on 15th Street.

According to its website, ALCO Parking will open Lot 2 on the North Shore for $3 and shuttle service will run until 10pm. Downtown parking will be available as well if you’d like to park closer to the action. A number of downtown garages and lots will be offering discounted rates after 4pm.

Port Authority

If you’re planning to avoid traffic by taking the T, you won’t exactly be immune from construction. As work continues on the North Shore Connector Project, the Gateway Center station is now closed. The last stop downtown is now the Wood Street Station. Bus routes are also affected by the closure of the Liberty Avenue/Stanwix Street intersection.
