Don’t forget to submit comments on proposed zoning

by Mountain Girl ~ December 28th, 2007. Filed under: Community, Development.

The Pittsburgh Department of City Planning is waiting for your feedback on the proposed zoning maps for Mt. Washington and Duquesne Heights. I know the holiday season is incredibly hectic, but please don’t miss out on the opportunity to affect real change in our community.

Community input must be received by the Pittsburgh City Planning Commission on or before Monday, January 28th. Concerned citizens may also testify at the public hearing at 1pm on this same date. The hearing takes place at City Council Chambers on the 5th Floor of the City County Building.

Call Justin Miller at (412) 255-2200 if you have questions prior to submitting your feedback. Feedback can be emailed to him at: justin.miller@city.pittsburgh.pa.us. I have also included this link to a hard copy of the Map Pittsburgh Feedback Form. Feel free to print it out and pass it around to those who may not have access to e-mail.

Let’s not forget what is at stake here. If the small faction of people that want to keep Virginia Avenue zoned for residential purposes prevails, we will be left with empty lots and sagging buildings for at least another decade or more. There is no doubt that they have already provided feedback to the Planning Commission and City Council. Let’s mobilize and take a few moments in the next several weeks to express our opinions as well.

Happy holidays to you and yours!

Maybe it’s time to start a group of our own, to counter-act the group of people mentioned in this post. If anybody has any interest let me know.

Does anyone have a good reason why Virginia Ave should not be zoned commercial? I don’t see any new residential development taking place down there. Just another big empty lot. New commercial development will only increase the number of Mt. Washington investments/stakeholders. How is that a bad thing? If you have a good reason why it should remain residential, please post it. Thanks.

    Chuck- Keep us posted.

yeah — I’d be interested in being more involved — not sure what else to do other than submit my feedback to the zoning board showing my support for development

Remember that those you oppose may check this website as well. Trust me.. we know first hand. (More to come on this topic)

I encourage groups organizing, it’s fun to fight fire with fire!

Also, maybe now is the perfect time to look deeper into the BID or Chamber of Commerce options. The businesses in Mt. Washington should have a strong voice.

They can check this website all they want. I won’t say anything here I wouldn’t say to their faces. It’s our right assemble, and we should! They do!

    Good point, Chuck.

It’s better to set a precedent up front that you’re on the up-and-up. That way, you can’t be accused of excluding anyone.

Anyone happen to notice the new sign at the empty lot on Virginia and Maple Terrace, whats that all about??

Saw that yesterday as I was driving by the lot. No idea what it is all about. It said something about “responsible development”.
