City Council District 2
by Mountain Girl ~ April 16th, 2008. Filed under: Community, Election. There have been several articles in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about the race for Representative Petrone’s seat in the 27th District (the townships of Neville and Stowe; and the boroughs of Avalon, Ben Avon, Crafton, Dormont, Emsworth, Glenfield, Ingram, and McKees Rocks). Dan Deasy is one of the candidates vying for this position come next Tuesday and if he wins, the 15211 is down a representative on City Council until a special election takes place.
A former Pittsburgh Public Works employee, Deasy has been serving on City Council since 2005 and is backed by the Allegheny County Democratic Committee in this race. Although the residents of Mt. Washington won’t cast our votes, we will be affected by the outcome. Perhaps it’s wise to start thinking about how a win for Deasy could affect Mt. Washington. By all accounts, he has been effective on legislation related to crime in our neighborhood and relatively supportive on development initiatives proposed by the community.
I’m not sure when the special election would take place, but I encourage everyone to do their homework before that time. Maybe we can even host some kind of forum where City Council candidates (once they declare their candidacy) can speak to residents and/or debate. Please decide where you would like to see our community now so that you can be sure to choose a candidate that shares your vision.
