Our ‘View’ stirs emotions in Roanoke, VA

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

A columnist is being criticised for mentioning that a mountain much like Mt. Washington in Roanoke, Va. should have a restaurant on it.
Sounds unfortunately familiar.
Before I get to the electronic mail, I’ll share a recent voicemail I received from an anonymous caller annoyed by my column citing the need for any restaurant on Mill Mountain […]

#4, #5, & #14 out of 43 things to do in Pgh = Mt. Washington

Monday, May 5th, 2008

I was searching for something to talk about and came across this ranking from one of my favorite travel sites, TripAdvisor.com.
#4 Is the Mon Incline, #5 is the Duquesne Incline, and #14 is the whole Mount itself, above ALL the other Pittsburgh neighborhoods including Shady Side, South Side, and The Strip! This is a well […]

Bigbee Field Tree Planting

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

If you have a green thumb or just want to bond with your Mt. Washington neighbors, Bigbee Field at 1pm is where it’s at tomorrow.

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

What better way to show some love for Mt. Washington restaurant owners than to vote for them in Pittsburgh Magazine’s Best Restaurants Reader’s Poll?
Far be it from me to try and influence you, but some of the categories I think our neighborhood establishments can sweep:

Best view (c’mon, how can we lose?)
BYOB restaurant
Italian non-chain
Most romantic
Seafood

I want […]

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

It seems that the most contentious debates on this site boil down to one common question…what about me? What about my neighborhood? What about my street? What about my block? The reality of all of these development issues is that not everyone is going to get what they want. Individual comments to our most recent […]

Pittsburgh Grandview Lions Club

Monday, January 21st, 2008

There has been some discussion in the comments regarding the tattered flag flying above Grandview Avenue near Shiloh Street. The plaque in front of the flag attributes “The Youth of the Leo Club of Grandview”, which is affiliated with the Pittsburgh Grandview Lions Club. Perhaps contacting them directly about the flag will yield some results.
Officers: […]
