Are you kidding me with this!?!?
by 15211Advocate ~ February 7th, 2008. Filed under: Community.STUPID LANE SHIFT!

A few months ago the city decided to do a lane shift on Grandview Ave. for reasons that I think only a few people know. This issue was brought up at a CDC meeting and no one knew who/what/when/how this was done and no one seemed happy about it.
This is just plain dangerous. Why did they (the City) do this on the crest of a hill that is a blind spot for drivers coming in both directions? Why did they do this when it doesn’t alleviate any traffic problems? (If anything, it creates a new problem.) And why did they do this without asking the community?
I get the feeling that this was done to give 2 or 3 houses at the top of the hill some convenient on-street parking. I wonder who they know that could get this taken care of on the sly? Was it done on the sly? Does anyone have information about why this was done? Who do we contact to fix this problem? This is a safety issue more than anything.

I agree, Why a dangerous lane shift at a hill crest and an elementary school? Seems like an accident waiting to happen.

I agree, does anyone know who to talk to about why this happened?

UNRELATED BUT FUN - SOMETHING TO DO TONIGHT & FIGHT CANCER
Yves Jean, probaby Pittsburgh’s only 6-foot-6
Hatian-American bass player, is having a CD release party
tonight at Diesel (East Carson Street, South Side), his
first new CD since his mom died (I think) Show starts
(allegedly) at 8, doors open at 7 p.m.
For those who haven’t heard
him, he’s a jammy blend of Paul Simon, Dave Matthews and,
dunno, maybe the String Cheese Incident? Anyhow, as
always, a portion of concert proceeds ($10 entry) go to
cancer research.

to come out of bigham street and make a left onto grandview with the new lane is extremly dangerous..what needs to be done..someone killed before it is changed back…i’m thinking that there is a person who is politically involved who lives in that block and had some pull…this needs to be changed back enough is enough

I agree Sunny. First thing is first though. I believe we have to call 311 and we need to find out who else to call. A squeaky wheel will get this solved faster. The weird thing is that the houses at the top of the crest seem to be for sale. I wonder if a real estate agent got this changed so it would be easier to sell those homes? Just a theory.

There is also a good chance that someone in the apartment building across the street requested the lane change because they do not want parked cars in front of their building.

They removed the “stupid lane switch” yesterday! I was routed off Grandview via Olympia Street yesterday morning and didn’t know why, then today I found that the lane switch had been removed and new lines painted. Woohoo! Thanks to all who got involved, we did it!
