6:30pm Zoning Meeting at the Mt. Washington Senior Center
by Mountain Girl ~ December 10th, 2007. Filed under: Calendar Events, Community, Development, Events. For all ye attending the Map Pittsburgh zoning meeting this fine evening, I saw a quote by J. Joubert that bears repeating.
The aim of argument, or of discussion, should not be victory, but progress.
Please come back later to share your thoughts and give your impressions about how the meeting went.

Couldn’t make it. Work.
Did anyone who reads/writes for this blog actually go to the meeting? Any thoughts?
The maps I got in the mail were not very clear at all. Do they have anything online where you can provide feedback or read about their agenda?

Bertha St.
Standing room only crowd at zoning mtg. The proposed changes were very important to lots of people. I just hope they follow through if they don’t approve, write letters, go to future meetings etc.
The people from the dept. of city planning did a good job of explaning the map and answering questions.
The real discussion was Virginia Ave. I went to a Map Pgh meeting a while back and now more folks are on the side of changing the zoning on Virgina from residential to commercial.
We need a hardware store, a gourmet shop, maybe a gym. There are so many endless possibilities…Another travesty. We as a community have never addressed the tourists that come here. Do you realize that visitors come up the incline and would like to spend money. Other than restaurants, where can they do this?
There will be more meetings in January, meetings in city council in the spring, more meetings, than voting by city council. It will take some time for our communtiy to change. I hope its not too late…………………….

Why not change the poll now to: What businesses should go on Virginia Avenue?

A reputable neighborhood source informed me of a potentially illegal business on Southern Ave. Allegedly, (and again, this is unsubstantiated as of yet), a “massage” parlor has just begun operations in that area.
If you see any activity you deem suspicious, I encourage you to alert the local police.
Unfortunately, this is what happens when you chase legitimate developers away.

Some neighbors were at city council Tuesday to speak about the illegal hunting of bow and arrow and rifles in Mt. Washington. We were able to meet with Councilman Dan Deasy in his office to talk about some other issues on the Mount and the illegal massage parlor was brought up. Councilman Deasy was given the address of the place and he said he will contact someone about doing undercover work. Aparently, this establishment was cited and closed in another neighborhood. So they moved here!
