221 Flexed

If you weren’t able to attend the Light Up Night festivities in Mt. Washington, you missed out. In addition to packed houses at most of the Shiloh Street bars and restaurants, not enough can be said about the transformation of the old law firm at 221 Shiloh Street. If ever there was a reason to believe that artists have the ability to revive a neighborhood, it was evident Friday night.

The number of people in attendance, the art displayed, the music played and the Mt. Washington-based movie that looped all evening made “221 Flexed” an event that showcased the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit here and the potential for it to turn this neighborhood around. A lot of neighborhoods have vibrant, talented people living in them, but the trick is to get them all to connect. 221 Flexed was a celebration of the fact that the artists in Mt. Washington finally found each other.

Thanks to Cityzens, owners and developers of this space, for not only offering up their property, but for making a long term commitment to Mt. Washington. Thanks to Greg and Jenna-Ann for being visionary enough to turn a gutted space into a gallery rivaling any we’ve seen in Lawrenceville or downtown. And thanks to the artists-Stacey, Jenna-Ann, Scott (I know there are others I’m missing)-for sharing their work.
