Rivergages

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

As we embark on a mighty big thaw, here’s a site to check for the water levels of nearby rivers and lakes. (Thanks for sharing Councilman Dowd.) The last major snow-related floods happened back in ’96 when there was actually less snow in the mountains than there is now.

Protestors assemble to fight strip club on Carson Street

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

A little over a year ago, a request for an occupancy permit for a strip club on Carson Street was rejected unanimously by the City Planning Commission. That would have been the end of the story save for the fact that Pittsburgh City Council failed to hold a public hearing on the matter, which led Judge James of the [...]

Pro-chair or anti-chair?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Mike Madison over at Pittsblog wrote an interesting post exploring both sides of the Pittsburgh parking chair debate. Even as the snow melts, I continue to see a lot of chairs,  TV trays, garbage cans, benches, etc. reserving spaces for hours and even days around Mt. Washington. My fear is that people will start to think “Hey, if no [...]

“The city isn’t clear, until your street is.”

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

If your comments and e-mails are any indication of the larger population, most people are directing any anger they have about the City’s response to this winter’s snow storms at the Mayor. I think this simplifies a complex issue, but I’m just reporting what we hear here at 15211. Although yesterday someone did send an [...]

Mt. Washington doesn’t get blitzed

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Impassable streets in 19 neighborhoods were attended to by the City yesterday. Here’s the list. I can’t hold the suspense any longer–Mt. Washington isn’t on it. No one has reported why these neighborhoods were chosen. I don’t think these decisions were politically motivated. At least I hope they weren’t.  I had started to map each neighborhood back to [...]

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Not sure where you all live, but our street still hasn’t been touched by a plow or piece of salt. I guess it’s considered tertiary so I’m thinking we’re looking at March until we get some help digging out. Anyway, I didn’t realize that this has been the snowiest February on record. According to the PG, [...]
