If anyone is living in the vicinity of disorderly neighbors and/or those promoting illegal activity in your community, you may want to attend a public hearing about it on Monday at the City-County Building downtown. The meeting starts at 1:30pm and the mayor’s much talked about plan to find and/or bring misdemeanor charges against owners [...]

Results of a study done at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia were released this week and indicate that people exposed to second-hand smoke for a significant period of time exhibit lung damage comparable to that of smokers. So if you live a healthy lifestyle, but work or frequent a place where people smoke, you could develop [...]

If you haven’t seen the article in Sunday’s Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about the couple (now both 87 years old) that saved and preserved the Duquesne Incline, read it here. Thanks Mr. and Mrs. Miller! Instead of responding directly to each of you, I thought I would write a post since there seems to be some contentious debate going on about a) the efficiency of the MWCDC and b) the effectiveness of CDCs in general. CDCs were conceptualized to revitalize low-moderate income communities by spurring development (affordable housing, job creation) [...]

I saw the efforts first hand the other day and think that this event will be a nice addition to the city’s annual event. [...]

The Nighttime View from Mt. Washington was named the 2nd of 10 of the most beautiful in the country by USA Weekend Magazine about four years ago. I looked at some of the other places on the list and wondered what kind of infrastructure supported those destinations. Were there hotels and shopping and other amenities [...]

1. Someone decorated the trees on Shiloh and they look phenomenal. I saw a fire truck so thank you firemen (and women if applicable) and whoever else helped. 2. I also had a very engaging conversation today with someone that just happened to be walking by me. I didn’t know her, she didn’t know me, [...]

I came across a new book on decision-making entitled “Breaking Robert’s Rules” that critiques the use of parliamentary procedures in governing a business or organization. The bylaws of the MWCDC specify that “The parliamentary authority for all matters of procedure not specifically provided for in these bylaws shall be Roberts Rules of Order Newly Revised”. [...]

It’s great to hear that something is finally going to happen on Grandview. The fact that they are actually selling the units is enough proof for me that they are going to break ground very soon. Hopefully they don’t hit any roadblocks in development. The mock up looks fantastic! This will be a great improvement [...]
